BioClout was a Johannesburg-based South African rock band best known for their smash track "Substitute." Initially all-female, the ensemble subsequently recruited several male musicians who had worked as session musicians on the album. Clout's first and most successful single, "Substitute", was a fresh arrangement of a Righteous Brothers song written by Willie Wilson. Their rendition peaked at number one in South Africa, New Zealand, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, and Belgium in 1978. It also peaked at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart and remained there for 15 weeks.
