BioCounterpoint is an 11-voice professional vocal ensemble based in Vermont established in the year 2000. Robert De Cormier, former music director of the New York Choral Society, led the group to excellence for seventeen years. As Music Director Emeritus, he conducted notable performances, including the Verdi Requiem and the premiere of the Missa Iona. A Juilliard graduate, De Cormier's conducting journey spans Broadway, opera, and collaborations with Harry Belafonte and Peter, Paul, and Mary. In 1993, he co-founded the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus, later establishing Counterpoint in 2000. His prolific compositions range from choral works premiered at Carnegie Hall to ballet scores like "Rainbow 'Round My Shoulder." De Cormier's arrangements cover African-American spirituals and international folk songs.
