BioGestu De Dakar is the brainchild of a group of passionate musician friends who came into being at the dawn of the 1980s in Senegal. United by a shared desire to contribute to this Senegalese musical revolution, they adopted the Wolof word "Gestü," symbolizing their profound spiritual quest.
Guided by the youthful and talented guitarist El Haji Malick Diouf, the group became fully formed, comprising Tidiane Bathily, Couri Ndiaye, Abdou Bâ, Abdou Kane, Jean-Pierre Gomes, Madiama Diop, and Djiby Ndiaye.
In 1981, Gestu De Dakar released their groundbreaking debut album, "Diabar," produced by Senegalese producer Ibrahima Sylla. This record left an indelible mark on the Senegalese music landscape, alongside other iconic acts like Orchestra Baobab and the Etoile de Dakar. Gestu De Dakar's legacy remains an enduring symbol of the dynamic and youthful spirit of a musical revolution in Senegal
