BioThe Kawere Boys was a Kenyan band comprising Benga musicians led by Cheplin Ngode Kotula, Juma Charlie, and Otieno Ogor.
For the band's four years reign in the music industry, its reputation in Luo country soared because of the members' distinctive sound and appearance.
When the band first arrived in Kericho, it was in an impossible situation since it had no resources for lodging and musical equipment.
Luckily, A.P. Chandarana of Kericho gave its members access to an apartment and some musical equipment.
In 1975, the band members relocated to Nairobi and made several recordings.
But the band's success was short-lived due to disagreements among its members, thus leading to a split in 1978.
After six months of separation, the warring factions of the band reunited, but under new leadership.
Despite their tumultuous history, the Kawere Boys left a lasting impact on Benga music in Kenya.
