BioThe Lijadu Sisters, Nigerian identical twin singers Taiwo (born 22 October 1948) and Kehinde (died 9 November 2019), created eclectic music blending Afrobeat, jazz, funk, and disco. Raised in Ibadan, they were influenced by various genres, including Western jazz and Nigerian music. The sisters, second cousins of Fela Kuti, started singing and writing songs from a young age. Their debut album " Iya Mi Jowo" released in 1969 established them as stars in Nigeria and beyond. With six albums and energetic live performances, they left a significant impact on Nigerian music history. In the late 1980s, they retired from the music scene. Kehinde passed away in 2019, but Taiwo continues to perform and record music, preserving their legacy.
