BioLiving Colour is an American rock group that emerged from New York City in 1984 under the direction of guitarist Vernon Reid. The band developed a distinctive approach by combining hard rock with funk, jazz, punk and hip-hop, while using its music to confront racism, political tensions and social inequality.
Reid, Corey Glover, Muzz Skillings and Will Calhoun formed the original lineup, with Reid also playing a role in founding the Black Rock Coalition, an organization created to support Black musicians exploring music beyond traditional boundaries.
The group reached a wider audience after Mick Jagger became an early supporter and helped them secure a recording contract with Epic Records.
Their 1988 debut, "Vivid," achieved major commercial success, particularly through “Cult of Personality,” which earned a Grammy Award. "Time’s Up" followed in 1990 and brought another Grammy. After "Stain," the band separated in 1995 before reuniting around 2000 and later releasing "Shade" in 2017.
