BioNeurosis began in Oakland, California, in 1985 as a raw hardcore and crust-punk band, but its ambitions quickly grew beyond those beginnings. Founded by Scott Kelly, Dave Edwardson, and Jason Roeder, the group gradually absorbed doom metal, industrial music, psychedelia, electronics, and experimental rock, helping establish the atmospheric approach that became central to post-metal. Albums such as "Through Silver in Blood" and "Times of Grace" became important reference points for the band's evolution, combining crushing guitars, tribal percussion, and electronics. Neurosis also expanded its creative world through Tribes of Neurot, an experimental project connected to the band's members, and Neurot Recordings, the independent label they established in 1999. After a decade-long recording hiatus and Scott Kelly's departure, the band returned in 2026 with "An Undying Love for a Burning World," featuring Aaron Turner on guitar and vocals. The comeback marked a new chapter while retaining Neurosis's reputation for boundary-pushing heavy music.
