BioNtombi & Survival was the backing band for South African singer Ntombi Ndaba during her rise in the mid-1980s. The group consisted of skilled musicians who played both in the studio and on stage, giving life to her early hits and albums. Survival was assembled by Ntombi’s producer and partner, A.T. “Rubber” Khoza, who provided instruments and brought together talent in Johannesburg. Core members included Jerry Dube and Bheki Zulu on keyboards, Bongani Sithole on bass, and Enock Nkosi on drums, with Ntombi Ndaba as lead singer and songwriter. The band contributed to key recordings like the single Think More About Me and albums I Am Trying and Dance The Night Away, shaping the sound of Ntombi’s bubblegum pop era. Beyond performing, Survival helped with musical arrangements. Later, some members continued to release music under related names, such as The Survivals, but their legacy remains tied to Ntombi’s foundational recordings and performances.
