BioThe Ofege Phenomenon was a 1970s schoolboy musical band from St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, Ikoyi, Lagos. They are one of Nigeria’s most outstanding schoolboy bands of all time! Led by bandleader Melvin Noks, Ofege created a distinct sound blending rock, funk, and soul, captivating audiences with their energetic performances. They recorded their first album in high school. Ofege’s debut album, Try And Love, was recorded and released in 1973. With their vibrant combo of sweet harmonies, hooks & fuzz, they became one of the most legendary Nigerian groups. However, with only four albums released until 1978 and recognition across West Africa, their impact can still be felt today, as their contributions continue to inspire and shape the vibrant Nigerian music scene. Ofege remains an iconic phenomenon that forever changed the landscape of Nigerian music.
