BioPlatform 1 is a South African Afro-pop trio formed in 1992 at Pimville Square in Soweto, consisting of Nani Ntengo, Sonto Dladla, and Neli Gwala. Their breakthrough came with the wedding-anthem “Isencane”, released around 1990-1991, which became a staple at weddings across South Africa, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, and Botswana.
Known for blending township rhythms with celebratory lyrics, Platform One specialised in songs that spoke directly to communal life, marriage, and joy. They remain active today and announced a comeback album set for December 2023, underlining their enduring presence in Southern African music.
Their major achievements include widespread regional popularisation of their sound, consistent touring in neighbouring countries, and recognition with an award at the InterContinental Music Awards. With a career spanning over 30 years, Platform One has carved out a special place in South African music by creating timeless songs that continue to unite people in celebration.
