BioProfessional Seagulls is a Nigerian highlife band that originated as the backing band for Rex Lawson, a popular highlife artist in the 1970s. After Lawson's death in 1976, the band continued to perform, renaming themselves as the Professional Seagulls. Led by Prince David Bull, the band remained faithful to the traditional highlife sound despite the rising popularity of other genres such as fuji and juju music. In the early 1980s, Professional Seagulls had their hit song, "Soko Soko," which brought them some recognition. However, the band has mostly remained under the radar since then, continuing to produce music and perform live shows. Despite their relatively low profile, Professional Seagulls has remained an important part of the Nigerian music scene, representing the traditional highlife sound that has deep roots in the country's cultural heritage.
