BioSimba Wanyika, translated as "Lions of the Savannah," was formed in 1971 in Kenya by Wilson and George Kinyonga. The band initially played at nightclubs and bars in Nairobi, quickly amassing a large following. By the mid-1970s, Simba Wanyika had become well-known throughout Kenya, because they had notable hits like "Mwongele" and "Wana Wanyika." Despite a split in the late 1970s, the band successfully regained its popularity in the mid-1980s upon reformation. In 1989, Simba Wanyika embarked on a tour across Europe. However, the band eventually disbanded in 1994. Various offshoots, including Orchestre Jobiso, Les Wanyika, and Super Wanyika Stars, emerged from the legacy of Simba Wanyika.
