BioThe Soul Brothers, founded in 1975, are the legendary "Kings of Mbaqanga," a genre they revolutionized by fusing traditional Zulu soul with modern instrumentation. Before their rise to fame, core members David Masondo, Zenzele Mchunu, and Tuza Mthethwa performed as the Young Brothers. After joining forces with keyboardist Moses "Black Moses" Ngwenya, the group’s identity was solidified by Masondo’s emotive soprano and Ngwenya’s signature percussive Hammond organ. Despite the tragic loss of several founding members and the passing of Masondo in 2015, the group remains a cultural pillar. They recently celebrated 50 years with the 2025 album "Thath'owakho," following their 2024 triumph at the SAMA Awards, where "Hamba Naye" was named Best Traditional Music Album. As business pioneers through Soul Brothers Records, they continue to release new music, including their live sessions, ensuring their rich, organ-driven legacy bridges generations of South African listeners.
