BioTamikrest is a Mali-based music ensemble founded in 2006 by a group of young Tuareg musicians hailing from the Kidal area in the northern region of Mali. Their style of music is a fusion of Western rock music and traditional Tuareg music. Tamikrest often addresses themes of political and social struggle in their lyrics, in addition to the challenges facing the Tuareg people. Many of their compositions are written and performed in Tamashek, the language spoken by the Tuareg. The group has released multiple albums and has performed extensively throughout Europe, North America, and Africa. Their unique blend of contemporary rock with traditional Tuareg music has earned them global recognition.
