Bio"The Animals" is an English rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s. The original lineup consisted of Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (keyboards), Hilton Valentine (guitar), Chas Chandler (bass), and John Steel (drums). They were part of the British Invasion of the United States, which saw a wave of British rock bands achieve commercial success in the US.
They had a number of hit singles in the mid-1960s, including "House of the Rising Sun," "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," and "We Gotta Get Out of This Place."
Their sound was characterized by Burdon's powerful and distinctive voice, Price's soulful organ playing, and Valentine's bluesy guitar riffs.
The band's music was heavily influenced by American blues and R&B, and they often covered songs by American artists like John Lee Hooker and Ray Charles.
After they disbanded, a band extension was created by Eric Burdon named "Eric Burdon and The Animals".
