BioThe Dark City Sisters were a popular and successful South African female vocal group formed in 1958 by music producer Rupert Bopape.
They recorded several hit records during the 1960s, helping usher in the mbaqanga style of South African music.
The band disbanded in 1971 for a short time, before coming back together in the middle 1970s, primarily as a live performing group. They were led by vocalist Joyce Mogatusi, who remained the only consistent member throughout the band's history. Other key members are Francisca Mgomezulu, Hilda Mogapi, and Esther Khoza.
