BioThys Nywerheid is a groundbreaking alternative rock music group from South Africa. Founded in 2004 by multi-talented musician Dawid Kahts, the band's name is a play on the Afrikaans term for Home Industry.
Thys Nywerheid is considered one of the pioneers of alternative Afrikaans music, blending electronic and rock sounds with satirical and thought-provoking lyrics.
The band's music features a mixture of Afrikaans and English.
Thys Nywerheid's unique style caught the attention of musician Jamie Sharpe, who joined the project as a turntablist and additional vocalist, persuading Kahts to start performing live.
In 2008, the band released their debut album, "Husse met lang messe," to critical acclaim.
The album was nominated for a Huisgenoot Tempo award for the most progressive Afrikaans album of 2008.
The band has taken a break in recent years but are back, releasing chart-topping albums, promising even more boundary-pushing music for fans to enjoy.
