Shaan, also known as The Afro Prince, is a multi-genre artist from Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town. He is a singer-songwriter and producer, blending Afro-pop, Pop, Hip-Hop, Trap, R&B, and Electronic Dance Music. Known for his melodic vocals and energetic performances, Shaan is making a name for himself in South Africa’s music scene.

His journey into music started early. As a young boy, he began writing songs and making beats. Over time, he released a string of singles that gained attention, like Fruity, Can’t Help It, Dance for Me, and Ndoda. In 2022, he officially introduced himself with his debut project, Thankful.

According to Shaan, he draws inspiration from major artists like 50 Cent, the late South African icon AKA, and Drake. These influences are clear in the way he approaches storytelling, emotion, and energy in his music.

In 2022, three years after his breakout single Ndoda, Shaan released his debut album. The solo album features 17 tracks that were recorded between March and August of that year. It has a fusion of Pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B, all produced by Shaan himself alongside Burundian producer X-fecta.

The album’s lead single, Give It, became a nationwide success. It topped the Heart FM chart at #1 and peaked at #3 on Gagasi FM, achieving over 15 million radio plays. The project solidified Shaan’s name as one of the freshest and most promising acts on the scene. According to Shaan, “The core message of this project is that the light is not at the end of the tunnel, it is within you.”

In 2024, Shaan continued his winning streak. His single Can’t Help It topped multiple charts, while his end-of-year releases So So and Dance for Me dominated local radio. So So remained on Heart FM’s SA Top 10 for 22 weeks and spent over six months on the CTM Top 40.

In 2025, Shaan shows no sign of taking their foot off the gas with his 2025 release. Take You There, an Afro-pop beauty that runs for over 3 minutes has garnered over 5000 streams across streaming platforms.

With more than 200 monthly listeners, a playlist reach of over 40,000 on Spotify, and 9.7k views on Youtube as reported by Chart metric, Shaan has made a bigger step in his career by joining the Josplay music family.
