Ghanaian singer-songwriter Eugene Entsir, popularly known by his stage name Eugy, comes through with his first-ever album, The Prodigal Son. The title of the debut project released on November 8, 2023 is said to have been inspired by a bible story by Jesus. The Bible story centers around a wayward son who squandered his inheritance and then experienced redemption and forgiveness upon return to his father’s house.

Eugy, who has made a name for himself as a rapper and singer in the UK, Ghana, and world music, is well known for his collaboration with Mr Eazi in Dance for Me. But in this new release, he applied his talents through the lens of spirituality.

On the release of this debut album, Eugy said, “One thing I know is that the Lord’s plans for you are always the best. It’s truly an honor to be a child of God. This project is a journal of my journey. I hope it resonates with you”.

Eugy also shared his recent journey with a focus on his time spent with family, moments of reflection, and personal growth during the past few months. He wrote, “Aside from spending much-needed quality time with my family and going to church, I’ve spent the majority of these past few months in solitude. I recorded this album in my living room, going through the motions of reflection and growth. I’m at peace and ready to use my gift/talent however God sees fit. It’s a seamless blend of Rap, gospel, and soul."

The Prodigal Son starts with the audio of his parents talking about God’s graciousness, goodness, and faithfulness in giving Eugene the redemption he needed. The second track, Man on a Mission, produced by Frimz99, talks about resilience and having clear eyes for vision to get everything you want by his grace.

Listening to the next track, Falling Down, Eugy lyrically emphasizes the importance of seeking the Kingdom of God above everything else, echoing the biblical adage, "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you." Eugy's introspective and soul-searching approach in this track resonates with sincerity, urging listeners to focus on spiritual growth as a foundation for a fulfilling life.

In track four, Lord Forgive Me, he takes responsibility for his past actions and wrongdoings. He concludes the track by asking for forgiveness from his family and late friend Ernest. This track serves as a pivotal moment in his journey, signaling a break from excuses and a commitment to taking responsibility for his actions.

In track five, Chosen, produced by Sevaqk, Eugy talks about his previous life and the changes he made to become a better person. In the next track, he addresses a significant moment where his friends took his baptism and spiritual commitment lightly. He expresses a resolute stance in his faith and an unwavering dedication to his beliefs, regardless of the verbal criticisms or attempts to undermine his convictions. Even with the brevity of track seven and the lack of lyrical content, it touches on the theme of love and spending quality time with his family. In track eight, Eugy emphasizes the importance of family ties, particularly highlighting his commitment to being there for his nieces. He expresses support, protection, and dedication to ensuring a positive presence in their lives.

Elohim takes the ninth position in this album. Here, Eugy expresses deep gratitude and thanks to God. By referencing Matthew 22:37, which centers on the greatest commandment, he emphasizes the importance of loving God wholeheartedly.

In the 10th, Lead by Example, Eugy embodies the track title as he conveys a message of setting a positive precedent for the youth because everyone is a role model even though we deny it.

In tracks 11, 12, and 13, Eugy delves deeper into spiritual themes, focusing on God's protection, the pursuit of reaching heaven, and his reflections on redemption.

Overall, The Prodigal Son album by Eugy is a testimony of his journey to redemption that would resonate with several listeners. It is a musical embodiment of spiritual revival and the profound changes experienced through a dedicated commitment to the teachings of God, offering encouragement and inspiration through music.
