Nigerian Afro-reggae artist Winny has released her sophomore EP, Commercial Break. The project is a redolent exploration of love, life, and fleeting emotions, beautifully crafted through her fusion lens. Fresh from the success of her viral track Lego, which also heralded the project, the 8-track EP further solidifies Winny’s standing as a rising sensation in Afro-reggae, blending various genres into an engaging body of work.

According to Winny, the title serves as a metaphor, which represents love as a momentary interruption in life’s steady rhythm – a careful reflection of her intention to redefine how her audience sees both her music and love itself.

The EP opens with Picture Perfect, a soulful track underscored by gospel-tinged piano and choir-like backing vocals. Its stripped-down, acoustic feel demonstrates Winny’s raw vocal talent and sets the pace for a thrilling run. It is like a quiet storm of emotions that draws listeners in, without overwhelming them.

The project seamlessly transitions into the next track All Night. The Afrobeats-infused jam radiates sultry energy, showing her flair for making incredibly delightful melodies that cater to the dance floor and the heart.

One of the pre-released tracks, Suh Good, comes third. The single, featuring Projexx, anchors the project with its mesmerizing chords and distinct Winny vocals. Their combined chemistry is evident, drawing listeners deeper into the EP’s rhythmic allure.

Commercial Break is a masterclass in Afro-fusion, weaving crispy elements of Afrobeats, Jamaican dancehall, and contemporary dance music into a cohesive and deeply resonant collection. It is a break from the mainstream Afrobeats sound but without a pause.
