Joseph Mayanja, known professionally as Jose Chameleone, is a legendary, multi-award-winning Ugandan musician and songwriter. His career began in the late 1990s, when he performed in bars and clubs around Kampala before achieving mainstream success. In 2000, he released his debut album, “Bageya,” featuring the breakout hit single "Mama Mia," which remains a classic in East African music.
Chameleone’s versatile musical style masterfully incorporates a mix of reggae, dancehall, and Afrobeat, allowing him to appeal to a diverse continental audience. Throughout his prolific career, he has released several successful albums, including “Kipepeo,” and “Shida Za Dunia.” The latter’s success contributed to him winning the All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA) for Best East African Artist in 2014. Beyond the stage, he is a dedicated humanitarian. Chameleone is actively involved in philanthropic activities supporting HIV/AIDS awareness and youth empowerment.
