Sonja Herholdt is an award-winning South African singer, actress, and television presenter whose work spans Afrikaans pop and gospel styles. She began performing at a young age and later trained as a teacher before fully committing to music in the early 1970s. Her breakthrough came with “Ek Verlang Na Jou,” a release that achieved gold status in South Africa and positioned her as a major voice on radio. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, she released several successful albums, including "Sonja," "Harlekyn," and "Waarom Daarom," earning repeated SARIE Awards for Best Female Artist. She expanded into acting with the film 'Sing vir die Harlekyn' and received recognition for her performance. Her career also extended into television presenting, keeping her visible across entertainment platforms. Later, she explored gospel and reflective material, founded Son Music in 2002, and continued performing and writing. She also authored a memoir, maintaining a long-standing presence in South African cultural life.
