Gnakrou Josée Priscille, born 29 June 1989 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is known today as Josey, one of Africa’s most celebrated singers.
Josey began singing in church at the age of eight, later experimenting with rap in the group 40T’N while pursuing studies in public administration at ENA. Her breakthrough came in 2012, when she placed second in the Castel Live Opera competition with a powerful cover of Sapiou.
She went on to release defining singles such as On Fait Rien Avec Ça (2014), Koba with DJ Arafat, Diplôme (2015), You Galoh (2016), Nagniouma, Jour J-0, La Vérité (feat. 2Boyz), Espoir (2020), Ma moitié, and Tout laisse (2023). Her albums Cocktail (2021), Phoenix (2022), and Vibration Universelle (2024) cemented her as a versatile star.
Awarded multiple Jayli Awards and a Trace Award, Josey’s voice continues to define modern Ivorian music.
