Bio
Carike Keuzenkamp is a South African Afrikaans singer, actress, and children’s entertainer whose career spans more than five decades. Born Elizabeth Maria Magdalena van Zyl on 3 March 1947 in The Hague, Netherlands, she relocated to South Africa during childhood and built her career there. Her early breakthrough came through the 1967 film 'The Professor and the Beauty Queen,' where her performance of “Timothy” gained national attention and opened the door to recording success. Across the 1970s and 1980s, she released several albums, including “Byeboerwa” (1979) and “Ek Sing” (1987), establishing a steady presence in Afrikaans music. She later became widely associated with children’s entertainment, releasing educational music projects and appearing on television programmes aimed at younger audiences. Her work also includes acting and multilingual recordings. In 2010, she received a lifetime achievement honour at the South African Music Awards, recognising her long-standing contribution to the industry.
