Chimurenga Renaissance is a hip-hop music duo rooted in Zimbabwean traditions, made up of Tendai "Baba" Maraire and Congolese guitarist Hussein Kalonji. Their music merges electronic elements with African instruments such as the mbira and ngoma drums, blending influences from hip-hop and Afrofuturism. They first gained attention with their mixtape "Pungwe," followed by their 2014 album "riZe vadZimu riZe," which featured collaborations with M-1. Inspired by Maraire’s father, who introduced Zimbabwean music to Seattle, the group continues to explore cultural fusion through their unique sound.
