BioBLK JKS ( Black Jacks) is a renowned South African rock band formed in 2000 by childhood friends Mpumelelo Mcata and Lindani Buthelezi in Spruitview, East Rand. They were later joined by Molefi Makananise and Tshepang Ramoba from Soweto. After several lineup changes, the band released a self-titled EP in 2007, which was followed by a collector's 10 inch of Lakeside and a series of lo-fi records titled Kilani Sessions. Their EP "Mystery" was recorded at New York's Electric Lady Studios and was first released independently in 2008 before being reissued with Secretly Canadian in 2009. The band gained international recognition with the release of their debut album, After Robots, produced by Secret Machines' Brandon Curtis, in September 2009. The band's international success gained them more attention nationally, and they were nominated for best album and best English alternative album at the 2010 South African Music Awards, taking home the latter.
