BioL'Orchestre African Fiesta, a renowned Congolese ensemble, played a pivotal role in shaping the African music scene. Founded in 1963 by two musical legends, Tabu Ley Rochereau, and Dr. Nico Kasanda, the band swiftly captured the hearts of audiences. Tabu Ley and Dr. Nico had previously been key members of Grand Kalle et l'African Jazz before branching out to form their group, African Fiesta. This move was instrumental in the transformation of African rumba into the genre we now recognize as Soukous. In 1965, Tabu Ley and Dr. Nico went their separate ways, resulting in Tabu Ley renaming his ensemble African Fiesta National while Dr. Nico established African Fiesta Sukisa. In the mid-1970s, Dr. Nico withdrew from the music scene, leaving Tabu Ley and African Fiesta National to continue their dominance of the Congolese musical landscape. By 1970, their records were routinely selling millions of copies, solidifying their legacy in African music history.
