BioThe South African-based ensemble Musik Ye Afrika was formed in 1997 by Zimbabwean guitarist Louis Mhlanga, bassist Jimi Indi, and drummer Jethro Shasha. They combined Zimbabwean mbira rhythms, jazz, highlife, and South African dance influences to create a distinct Afro-fusion style. Their self-titled debut in 1997 introduced them to international attention, and they followed up with "United We Stand" in 2003 with drummer Sam Mataure. No official disbandment date is recorded, with their most active period in the late 1990s to early 2000s. They were nominated for a SAMA award and are recognized for contributing to Southern African fusion music.
