BioOrchestra Makassy was an East African soukous band comprised of musicians from Tanzania and Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo). Emerging in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the group became one of the leading musical outfits in Tanzania. They made one of their initial recordings with "Chama Cha Mapinduzi," and in 1982, they relocated to Nairobi to record the Nairobi Agwaya Sessions. This collection has been acclaimed as one of the highlights of East African Rumba. Unfortunately, Orchestra Makassy disbanded in 1984.
