BioThe Super Volcano Orchestra is a music group formed in Kenya by Mbaraka Mwinshehe when he left Tanzania. The group lasted until 1979, as a result of his death.
Mbaraka and Super Volcano rose to become the most popular dance music acts in East Africa, with frequent touring across Tanzania but also in neighboring countries, especially Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zaire (Lubumbashi), and Ethiopia.
Mbaraka, who was a renowned Tanzanian guitarist and vocalist, had previously captivated East African audiences with the Morogoro Jazz Band from 1965 to 1979 before forming Orchestra Super Volcano. Tragically, he met his demise in a car accident in January 1979.
