BioFounded in 1965 by Papa Kouyaté, Sékou Camara, Mory Kanté, Djeli Sory Kouyaté, and Mamady Kouyaté, the Quintette Guinéenne was a Guinean music band that innovatively merged Guinean music with jazz, funk, and rock. They pioneered a significant milestone as the first African band to secure a major record deal with Atlantic Records, leading to extensive tours across Africa, Europe, and the United States. Their 1967 debut album, "Musique Sans Paroles," propelled them to the forefront of Guinean music, setting the stage for subsequent successful releases like "Douga" (1972), "Yéké Yéké" (1976), and "Tenke" (1982). Unfortunately, the band disbanded in 1983 following Papa Kouyaté's passing, leaving behind a legacy that profoundly influenced the trajectory of African music and helped pave the way for future generations of musicians
