BioFormed in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2005, Sauti Sol is an award-winning band comprising Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano, Polycarp Otieno, and Savara Mudigi. The group began as an a cappella ensemble before expanding into live instrumentation, drawing from Afropop, Afro-soul, R&B, and contemporary African music. They perform primarily in Swahili and English, with occasional use of Sheng, Luo, and Luhya.
Their debut album, "Mwanzo" (2008), introduced their signature sound, while "Sol Filosofia" (2011), "Live and Die in Afrika" (2015), "Afrikan Sauce" (2019), and "Midnight Train" (2020) established them among Africa's leading bands. Their catalog includes "Sura Yako," "Suzanna," "Melanin," "Nerea," and "Kuliko Jana." Sauti Sol has collaborated with Burna Boy, Patoranking, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, India Arie, and Sho Madjozi. Winners of multiple AFRIMA, Groove Awards, and other continental honors, Sauti Sol remains one of Kenya's most influential musical groups despite embarking on individual solo careers in 2023.
