BioTananas, formed in the 1980s, was a phenomenal South African musical trio comprising Steve Newman, Gito Baloi, and Ian Herman. Their fusion of jazz, rock, and African rhythms created a distinctive and culturally transcendent sound. Their journey began with their debut album in 1988, followed by two major-label releases. However, their creative differences led to a temporary hiatus in 1992. During this break, Newman collaborated with Tony Cox, while Baloi embarked on a successful solo career. The trio reunited in the late '90s, achieving international recognition through the WOMAD tour. Sadly, their reunion came to an end in 2004 when Gito Baloi was shot after a performance, bringing an end to Tananas' musical journey.
