BioSavuka, translated to as "Awakening" or "We have Risen" in Zulu, was a musical group founded in 1986 by Johnny Clegg and is sometimes referred to as Johnny Clegg and Savuka. The band's music was a fusion of traditional Zulu influences, Celtic elements, and rock music. Their lyrics were a mix of English and Zulu and carried strong political messages, particularly in opposition to apartheid. In 1987, Savuka released their debut album, "Third World Child," which sold over a million copies. Despite the apartheid-era ban on some of their songs and performances in South Africa, they gained international success and became the second-best-selling South African band outside the country. The band members included Johnny Clegg, Steven Mavuso, Keith Hutchinson, Derek de Beer, Mandisa Dlanga, Dudu Zulu, Jabu Mabuso, Solly Letwaba, and Andy Innes. Savuka disbanded in 1994.
