BioLe Grand Kallé et l'African Jazz, commonly known as African Jazz, emerged as a highly influential Congolese rumba (soukous) band in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Established in 1953 in Léopoldville (modern-day Kinshasa) during Belgian colonial rule, the band was spearheaded by Joseph Kabasele Tshamala, famously known as Le Grand Kallé. Its zenith occurred from 1958 to 1962, but defections in 1963 led to a decline. Though briefly revived after 1966, the group disintegrated in 1967–68 as members departed to form a new band. Notable members included Dr Nico Kasanda, Manu Dibango, Sam Mangwana, Tabu Ley Rochereau, etc.
