BioHailing from Bamako, Mali, Bamba Wassoulou Groove is a powerhouse collective that bridges the gap between vintage Malian rock and modern psychedelic funk. The group was established in 2013 by the late Bamba Dembélé, a legendary percussionist and co-founder of the iconic Super Djata Band. His goal was to breathe new life into the high-energy "Wassoulou" sound a style rooted in ancient hunter rituals rather than traditional griot praise-singing. The band is famous for its "wall of sound," driven by three electric guitars that deliver dizzying, Hendrix-inspired solos over a trance-inducing rhythm section. Their music is raw, electric, and designed for the dance floor, blending Bambara traditions with gritty blues and rock. Following Dembélé’s passing in 2018, the group continued his legacy under the leadership of guitarist Moussa Diabaté. With acclaimed albums like Farima (2015) and Dankélé (2020) on the Lusafrica label, they remain one of Mali’s most electrifying musical exports.
