BioThe Super Rail Band of Bamako is a Malian musical group that was formed in 1970, also known as Bamako Rail Band, Rail Band, or Super Rail Band of the Buffet Hotel de la Gare, Bamako. The group's name, "Super Rail Band," comes from the fact that they originally performed at the Bamako railway station, where they were discovered by the government and given the opportunity to perform at the National Theater of Mali.
The band is known for blending traditional West African music with elements of Latin, jazz, funk, and blues.
Over the years, the band has featured a number of notable musicians, including Salif Keita and Mory Kanté. The band, which was training ground for many of Mali's most popular performers such as Djelimady Tounkara, continues to be a popular and influential band in Mali and throughout West Africa.
